Short Story Reviews: “Horrorscope” and “The Last Tweet” by Charles Black

Adapting the darkest of Lovecraft’s cultist, Old Ones mythos for comic effect, albeit dark comedy, these brief vignettes achieve mixed results.

“Horrorscope”

3 of 5 stars.

Devout Cthulhu cultist leader, Brian Sloane, determines the right day and time to initiate the supernatural apocalypse by reading his horoscope [Aries] from a tabloid. His group does unspeakable things to thirteen virgins and then to each other to bring about the end of days.

Only, his horoscope may have been less than predictive of his intended results. Sloane seeks the astrologist out for an explanation, or payback …

“The Last Tweet”

1 of 5 stars.

A character-count perfect tweet regurgitates Lovecraft cultist mythos at the ultimate moment. An entire story in a tweet, it lacks.

These tales appear in Whispers from the Abyss edited by Kat Rocha. I received this new anthology directly from 01 Publishing through bookreviewdirectory.wordpress.com.
